![]() The new entry into the family - The Rel Stampede
I have been wanting a home theatre receiver for a loong time but my parents never got me one. Well, now that I dont live with my folks and they are not around to superwise me, I went and got myself a Yamaha HTR-5440 in January 2002.
The Bose 301's are a very fine pair of stereo speakers which has has served me well for over 5 years now. I hope to move them as surrounds and get a pair of tower speakers with a matching centre channel. My 301's are "Sonata Limited Edition" series which have a granite like finish. The 301's are good for music but dont quite cut for DVDs.
This is actually Sony's investment - I got the HT receiver and he got the DVD player. Thought I would list it here for the sake of completeness ;) The Pioneer 533K DVD player is a region free DVD player which also does VCDs, CDs and MP3s. It has pass thru's for Dolby Digital and DTS digital audio via optical and coaxial outputs. Yes people, It plays VBR encoded MP3s creating with "lame" just fine.
I also have a Pioneer 12 CD changer which my sister uses back home. This particular model has been discontinued and cant seem to find a picture of it anywhere. Will put a pic up as soon as i get it.
http://www.handan.co.kr/english/proq-2.htm This is the digital Set-Top-Box (STB) that Siti Cable distributes for receiving Galaxzee's CAS system. Zee should be launching stereo broadcasts with Dolby Stero encoding for surround sound provided the broadcaster's original audio signals have this information encodeed in it. Rumor has it that me is the first Siti Cable end user in Bangalore to get one of this (22nd August 2003). Yeah I know, I am a geek! ;)
My dad blew a fuse when I paid 50$ for a lovely pair of Koss TD-75. This model has now been discontinued and has been replaces by the TD-80 (image) which have similar specs.
At office, I use the Koss P-3. They are very comfortable for long listening.
The Yamaha HTR and the DVD player have TOSLINK support and are connected using a 2 meter Daiyo fiber optic cable. This is the funkiest pair of cable I have seen to date! :)
I dont use my old Monster Interlink® CD Solid Core Technogy Audio Interconnect anymore. I am sure that the Daiyo optical cable will do a better job! :-D
Industrial strength gold plated banana plugs from MX Electronics are used for speaker connections to the amp.
Last November (2001), a massive power surge melted the transformers of my CATV converter, Torvin Amplifier, DC power adapter and my old TV. Hopefully, this spike protector from MX Electronics should prevent any more blowups. Just to be on the safe side, I unplug everything from the power socket when the equipment is not in use. Can't afford blowing up the Yamaha receiver :-D | ||||||||||||||||||||||
